Highway 67

Back in August, Aaron and I drove down to Texarkana - where he was born and raised. It was my first time to Texas.

We took the scenic route home - Highway 67. On our way home, we drove through Gurdon. Aaron and I thought the grocery sign was amusing: FOODSORE.

We drove by Gurdon schools. Their mascot is a "Go Devil.' A go devil is a rotary tool for scraping out obstructions from an oil pipeline. Here is Aaron standing on the go devil.

And to top it all off, we passed by this awesome mailbox. I saw it at a glance and told Aaron we had to turn around and get a picture! I don't think I have to say anymore!

Things I said that I'd never do...

Within the last few months - I've done several things that I said that I'd never do.

  • Marry a doctor. 6/13/09.
  • Work at a hospital, other than a teaching facility. 8/31/09. However, I only managed to work there 3.5 weeks. One of those weeks being orientation, two weeks on the unit. Discovered that I enjoyed working with kids.
  • Work in a doctor's office. For those of you who don't know yet, I'm working at Possum Holler Pediatric with the husband. I'm just filling in, helping - as the winter season picks up. It's actually been good - I get to see how the pediatric office works.
I wonder what could be next!

Random

I was going through some pictures - pictures I've meant to post and/or blog about. Here's one I thought was funny.

Still adjusting...

Well, here goes...another blog. I realize it's been over a month since the last posting. I mean, you can't really call it a post since I just linked the wedding video, right? I honestly thought life would slow down after the wedding, but it hasn't till now - 3.5 months later. Trips to Murfreesboro, New Orleans, Natchitoches, West Virginia, Savannah - I'm not really sure when our last "nothing to do" weekend was.

Having said this, I applied and accepted a job in the ER at a hospital in Hot Springs. I spent a week in classroom orientation to find that it's nothing like Vanderbilt! :) At this point, I found myself to be homesick. I started working on the unit the following week, and I really enjoyed working with my preceptor. I tried convincing myself that (re-) learning about adults would be very beneficial. Hot Springs is a retirement community, so the patient population is consists of geriatrics. After two and a half weeks, I discovered that I don't like working with adults! Hence, I resigned from my position.

So, it's just Travis and I hanging out on the couch, which Mr. PursuingPineapple slaves away! :)

I guess you can say...I'm still adjusting!

Officially an Arkansan!

Most of you know the meaning of my Tennessee license plate. Rachel Nickens the Registered Nurse. With the new name, RWTHERN wouldn't have the same effect!

A week or so ago, after I received my social security card (because you can't change anything unless you have a new one), I went to get my new tags.

Happy birthday - to me!

Happy birthday to me! Aaron surprised me on Monday evening with a quick trip to Memphis for Wednesday night! We met in Memphis last year - right before my birthday. We, again, stayed at the Madison.

Thursday morning, Aaron and I walked up and down Beale Street. We went to one of our favorite stores: A. Schwab. We had to try on the hats!

We stopped by Peabody Place and walked around. We treated ourselves to Maggie Moo's. Had some Red Velvet ice cream! Oh my, it was so good! :)

Friday evening, Kaitlin and Matt came up early, Donnie and Lori came over - and we had hot dogs and birthday cake! We bought the "Party Animal" hat in Memphis. We're starting a tradition - those celebrating birthdays with the Wards will wear the hat during the 'birthday song.' :) So, I had the pleasure of starting off the tradition!

Yellow cake and chocolate icing! It was so good!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Had a wonderful week/end of birthday festivities! :)
